This study attempted to analyze whether prior experience of consumers who use Centers of Independent Living impacts conflicts between themselves and their coordinators. This research involved 51 consumers, who were divided into two groups based upon their level of experience in receiving services. A 15 item questionnaire was analyzed for potential conflicts with coordinators. Only one item was found to be different between the two groups: More experience respondents indicated that coordinators interfered with consumers choice of personal assistants, resulting in undesired or inappropriate caregivers being chosen. One possible explanation for this finding is that consumers with more experience may be more critical and demanding about care services. However, the coordination system at Centers of Independent Living may not adequately respond to consumer needs and current care giving staff resources may be inadequate. |
