Popis: | The effect of the ganglionic blocking agent, trimethaphan camsylate, on the portal venous and systemic arterial blood pressure was evaluated in 58 cirrhotic patients who had esophageal varices secondary to portal hypertension. Portal venous pressure was monitored by splenic-pulp manometry. Trimethaphan induced a mean decrease of 31.0% in portal pressure and 39.3% in arterial pressure.
