Popis: Bentonite is a commercial name of a clay mineral which consists of montmorillonite as main composition. Montmorillonite is a layered silicate clay mineral in which an alumina octahedral arrangement situated between two tetrahedral of silica sheet. Substitutions of Al3+ within the lattice structure of Si4+ in tetrahedral sheet and Mg2+ for Al3+ in octahedral sheet resulted unbalanced charge in the structural units of bentonite. The charge imbalanced is compensated by exchangeable cation such as Na+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ in the interlayer spaces. Bentonite has several advantages such as ion exchange property, adsorptive property, swelling behavior and large surface area. [1]
