University of Otago researchers conducted a study on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, focusing on drug-resistant strains and the vulnerabilities they present. The research identified potential pathway targets to combat isoniazid resistance by analyzing an isoniazid-resistant katG mutant strain of M. tuberculosis. The study highlighted how changes in the physiology of drug-resistant strains can generate druggable vulnerabilities that may improve clinical outcomes. The findings were published in Nature Communications and funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand. [Extracted from the article] |
