This monograph focuses on the professional training of teachers working at pre-primary and primary level in six European countries – the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia. Through individual case studies, it provides an overview of the types of training opportunities available to those in the profession and especially classroom teachers who are responsible for the education of children in pre-primary and primary education. The case studies provide insight into the development of professional training for teachers in pre-primary and primary education. They show the basic characteristics of the different models of pre-primary education and its institutions, goals, and content for the children who benefi t from them. They highlight the issue of continuity with primary education, as well as its objectives and content, the characteristics of current pedagogical practice and the ways of meeting the needs of pupils attending primary schools. |
