India is among the few fastest growing economies but the present rate of growth is not enough to provide jobs to millions of educated youth and is not inclusive with rising inequality and sharp divisions along religious and caste lines in the society. Among the nation's myriad problems are excessive centralization of power and apathy in the political class, poor implementation of laws and violence against women and weaker sections. The state is unable to ensure clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity and roads to the rural masses. It is retreating from its primary duty to provide basic education and health care, there by lowering down India's rating in the world indices on key health areas, and ill-equipped to provide quality education in a highly digitized world. The nation lags behind in a business and tourist friendly environment. Governance is deficient and justice-elusive to the poor. |
