The objective of this research study is to identify the perceptions of faculty about current level of information literacy skills and need to improve these skills of engineering students in higher education in Pakistan. This study also explores what faculty members think whose responsibility is to provide information literacy (IL) instructions. It will help to design better IL programs for the tertiary level students. This study used the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Science and Engineering/ Technology as the basis to assess these perceptions. For the purpose of this study NUST faculty teaching engineering students of post-graduate level were selected. They were the population of this study. A questionnaire based survey method was used to gather data required to answer the stated research questions and to achieve the objectives of this study. Questionnaires were sent to all teaching faculty members. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 12.0 was used to analyze the gathered data. Statistical techniques used include paired-samples t-test and ANOVA. The research indicates that faculty perceive information literacy skills of their PhD level students higher than those of MPhil level students. This study also indicates that the faculty is well aware of the importance of information literacy (IL) in their field and support the idea to impart its instructions. Though, they themselves use various methods and techniques for their students to go through information seeking process, however, they have also demonstrated a high level of interest in working with library professionals to expand these efforts.
