The article presents an overview of the process used by Alberta's Edmonton Public Library (EPL) to implement a system of floating collections. Collaboration within the 17 branches of the EPL system is discussed, and the problems and solutions associated with the circulation of the EPL's collections of materials are explored. The impact of a floating collection system on library staff, librarians, and library users is examined and the outcomes of the development of a system to assign books to home locations within the EPL system are chronicled. |
