Abstrakt: Authority control is usually the last component to be considered by libraries when investing in an online catalog. Its importance, while minimized by many, affects not only catalogers but also impacts the user. What happens to authority control when the online catalog is shared by over 800 libraries ranging in size from small school libraries to large academic research libraries? Members of ILLINET Online's Bibliographic/Authority File Sites Subcommittee, a subsection of the Illinois Library Computer System's Organization's Maintenance Committee, is the policy making body of nine libraries that are responsible for online maintenance of this file. The policies underlying its decisions and an overview of the training program are included here. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
