Abstrakt: The article discusses the impact of patron-driven acquisition (PDA) on the business model and mission of academic publishers. The authors note the fast pace of technological change in the world of publishing and comment on the outsourcing of academic credentials to academic presses due to the requirements of publication for receiving tenure. Also important is the knowledge of the discoverability of the books published by academic presses based on analysis of enhanced metadata that accommodates the demands of the end users. The electronic book is helpful in this regard, according to the authors, because it makes metadata research easier. The role of aggregators and their multiple platforms for reading ebooks is also discussed.
