Analyzes the contribution of Latvians to the rebuilding of the metal industry in Moscow after the Revolution. The participation is seen mostly in terms of disseminating the proper Bolshevik ideology rather than in terms of contribution of technical skills. The author is mostly concerned with the period 1918-24 but also goes back to 1900 to show how the Latvian workers participated in revolutionizing working masses. The most significant influx of Latvian workers arrived in Moscow after the evacuation of Riga in 1915. It is out of this group that the Moscow industry inherited some of the most faithful builders of Communist industry. |
