The article reports on the launch of the Book Industry Communications' (BIC) e4libraries initiative in 2007 with a goal to build on the success of electronic-commerce (e-commerce) and book trade. It notes that the project was supported by the Museums and Librarians Acquisitions (MLA), Chartered Institute of Library and Informations Professionals (CILIP), and National Acquisitions Group. The E4libraries aims to address the library sector's need through researching its supply chain, encouraging the preparation of e-commerce, and mechanization in the book and serials supply chains. Moreover, among the products being developed by the company is its scheme of standard subject categories and qualifiers. |
