The article discusses how technology will affect university libraries. The author discusses criticism of a plan to digitize the collection of the Meyer Library at Stanford University and store its books off-campus due to safety concerns regarding the library building. Faculty at Stanford proposed the creation of research portals and a browsing model combining books and electronic information resources. The author suggests that scholars should be included in the redesign process for the library rather than just library and technology professionals. |
