Asian Americans in literature for children and young adults.

Abstrakt: The article examines the presence of Asian American characters in literature made for children. The author claims that the representation of Asians and Asian Americans in literature has grown substantially in the 1990s and 2000s, with a significant move away from exoticism. Statistics from the Cooperative Children's Book Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison reveal that there has been an average of 65 books per year out of a total of 3,000 which represent Asian characters. The author examines the range and authenticity of Asian characters in children's books.
