The article discusses a workshop about the issue of whether to classify periodicals. The workshop was led by Elaine Rast of Northern Illinois University and Glenda Thornton of the University of North Texas. The workshop was started with a discussion of the definition of a serial and a general overview of the difficulties in dealing with serials. The background of the debate and the literature on classification of periodicals was discussed. The problem associated with the removal of wooden dummies from the shelves was highlighted by Thornton. |
