The processing starts with the stamping of the journal to indicate that it belongs to the library. The date of the receipt is also stamped and a security label is applied if appropriate. After a note is made for follow-up, the issues will be shelved. The issues that must be considered when establishing a shelving policy include the overall approach to organizing the serials collection and what is going where.
