This discussion considers a new model for library stacks management based on the model proposed by Sun and Chen (2012) to enhance collection management in academic libraries. Sun and Chen proposed a model for cost-effective space utilisation of libraries with three separate stack sections, each with a different function complementing one another to achieve the goal of economising library space and labour, while still meeting client expectations. This opinion piece discusses improving on Sun and Chen's model in terms of simplicity, ease of operation, and accessibility of library items to meet client needs in the information-seeking process and to solve space shortage problems faced by many libraries. Additionally, important considerations regarding implementation of the model are presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
