This forum collects scholarly analyses and process-based reflections about the intellectual and ethical labor of editing Black literature from periodicals for re-publication in codex editions. The introductory essay provides the framework for this forum by highlighting the importance of "proactive . . . life-affirming" literature originally written by and addressed to Black people. Four projects by contempoary scholars are included in the forum's essays, including novels by Pauline Hopkins, George Schuyler, and Duse Mohamed Ali. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
