Abstrakt: Objectives: To clarify the issues faced by doctoral students in graduate schools of medicine in writing their dissertations, and to explore methods of providing support to them through library workshops. Methods: A questionnaire was sent to 656 doctoral students of A university, and 74 responded. A semi-structured interview survey of 10 volunteers was conducted to examine the results of the questionnaire survey. Results: In the questionnaire survey, 51.4% of students reported facing difficulties reviewing previous studies, and 89% indicated PubMed as the database they wanted to learn more about. The most common request to the library was to hold workshops to train them on how to use the databases to help them write papers or successfully write papers for refereed journals. The survey subjects* main difficulties were:(1)insufficient relationship with academic advisors; (2) concerns about exhaustive prior research surveys; (3) the structure of papers and English expressions; (4) understanding factors for getting articles accepted in refereed journals; (5) poor knowledge of submission destinations, and (6) optimal use of citation tools. Conclusions: In response to the request on how to write papers for peer-reviewed journals, we propose and outline a support site called "Flow of Paper Submission". As support from the library's perspective, it would be useful to set up this site on the library's website with links to available support from other departments, workshops, and their on-demand distribution information.
