The organic material 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone was grown by the slow evaporation method using acetone as the solvent. Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies show that the grown 2,4- dihydroxyacetophenone single crystal belongs to the monoclinic crystal system. The FTIR and FT-Raman spectra were recorded to identify the functional groups present in the grown crystal. The optical properties of the grown crystal were analysed by UV-Vis studies. The thermal stability and degradation of the grown crystal were analysed by thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters such as the activation energy, frequency factor, entropy, enthalpy and Gibbs free energy are computed from TGA data using three different approximation methods.
