Libraries are the repositories of the scholarly record; however, few of our efforts are directed toward building unique collections outside of special collections and archives. As cultural heritage institutions, it is time to consider changing our role in the scholarly communication process by shifting our collection development emphasis away from traditional collections towards more up-stream materials-such as institutional repositories and edge collections.
