Abstrakt: Despite the proliferation of multidimensional computer visualization software and three-dimensional (3D) graphics and image processing software, the process of entity selection within a drawing or image usually is limited to a two-dimensional (2D) process. For example, AutoDesk's AutoCAD can display 3D drawings isometrically, but the selection process reverts to a 2D process when invoked. This process is applicable to 2D selection needs such as picking items from a map (or plan) view drawing. However, there are numerous current and foreseeable applications where 3D graphic or image entity selection would be beneficial. Geoscience data processing software should have this capability in order to select a 3D portion of the Earth to assess. Discussed are potential applications of 3D selections; target software for implementation; and SQL format for 3D selection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
