Abstrakt: Addresses the theme of Information Science as interscience, and explores its contribution toward meaningful information. Discusses the debate on the distinction between basic and applied science so as to provide background to the challenges facing Information Science as an interscience. Finds a relationship of power between knowledge and society, which makes it essential to consider the human factor when it comes to issues such as language, context, and time. Examines the role of aesthetics, meaning, and understanding, as well as reason and unreason, in order to illustrate how information scientists can absorb the challenges they pose to an interscience in the configuration of meaningful information. Concludes that this meaningful information flows from digested knowledge, which in turn leads to action necessary for the successful implementation of knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
