The user needs of chemical online databases expressed in the literature are reviewed in this article. Accuracy, comparability, completeness, consistency, and timeliness of the information are high on the list of desiderata of these users. Data from various sources should also be merged more easily. Users showed great concern for the price level and especially for the online pricing metrics. Furthermore, properties of compounds, including stereochemistry, three-dimensional structure information, economic information, toxicity, environmental behavior, etc., must be made more searchable.
