Two departments were combined in 1969 to form the present medical center library and communication systems to cope with the growing demand and need for a common reference point to all media. Problems were encountered in cataloging video and audio tapes that do not have the traditional aids of title, imprint, table of contents, and index. New types of non-shelf storage are required; even the production and reproduction of non-print media is requested of the librarian; circulation, control and associated records present somewhat unique problems. These activities are currently underway with the underlying principal that all knowledge, regardless of media, must be classified and made available to the community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
