Abstrakt: The author presents a review of the King Report, a major curriculum study, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Center for Libraries and Educational Improvement, which has been very controversial. Background information is presented first, and then the objectives of the report are outlined (five). Six assumptions which the King researchers held are listed. A wide range of information professional competencies, organized by function, level, and by work setting are overviewed. Conclusions drawn by the King Report are summarized, and the author points to its impact in two basic areas: 1) the design/redesign of instructional programs in library and information science; 2) the administration of libraries and information centers.
