| Abstrakt: |
Various methods of improving the online public access catalog (OPAC) are reviewed. An expert system front-end is proposed as a means of improving subject access. The expert system approach is examined as a mechanism for developing a subject search front-end, and it is argued that an effective expert front-end can be developed by focusing of user search strategies. A design for a rule-based expert system front-end is described, and possible selection rules and search strategies are outlined. Cheney's model of heuristic classification forms the basis of the inference structure of the proposed system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
