Abstrakt: College students with print impairments face a double challenge in pursuit of a quality education. First, they must obtain instructional text materials in alternative formats, and then they face challenges related to the timeliness of their ability to gain equal access to academic information. A new project based at California State University at Fullerton (CSUF) attempts to address both of these access challenges. The CSUF Braille Transcription Center (BTC) has been established with a $ 350,000, three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education for a 'Model Demonstration Project to Improve the Delivery and Outcomes of Postsecondary Education for Individuals with Disabilities.' The purpose of the project is to create a center for the production of instructional materials in Braille. The BTC presents a multi-campus model of service delivery that will be of interest to those people responsible for and concerned with providing equal access to information in postsecondary education.
