One issue that has emerged in relation to the increased emphasis on project management in organizations is the importance of educational preparation and training in the principles and techniques of project management for those who have such responsibilities. The research indicates the need for a more enhanced focus on project management in degree programs and in professional development. The research presented here addresses the importance of project management in libraries and the extent to which graduate programs in library and information science provide such preparation. The results reflect the overall focus on the importance of management principles, including the coverage of specialized aspects of management, such as human resources and financial management, and the limited focus on project management in library and information science programs. The aspects of project management, which are addressed in the curricula are discussed, as is the need for project management expertise for large- and small-scale projects in libraries.
