The article discuses the history associated with the nomenclature of the Himalayan Mountain range in Asia. Topics include the Great Trigonometrical Survey (GTS) conducted by the British to map and name the mountains in 1802, numerical designations to the mountains like Peak B, Peak XV and Gamma, controversies with the name "Everest" as a tribute to former Surveyor-General, George Everest, and the British Colonial efforts to accommodate a Nepali or Tibetan name. |
