| Abstrakt: |
The paper examines the basic processes involved in searching external authority flies and in integrating the data retrieved into a host file maintained by a national bibliographic agency or by a multinational consortium. It also provides an assessment of the potential for minimizing the level of human intervention required in those processes by automatically generating search keys to be used in protocol-based searches and using programmed routines to evaluate result sets and integrate the data retrieved into a host database. The paper concludes with some observations on the design of a system to support the assignment and registration of International Standard Authority Data Numbers (ISADN). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
