The article focuses on a workshop on empowering women through self help groups. The workshop, sponsored by Government of India, Ministry of Human Resources Development was organized under the joint auspices of Prof. Kaula Endowment for Library and Information Science and Foundation for Information and Communication during 9-10 November, 2002 at Municipal Gandhi Bhavan, Eluru of Andhra Pradesh. Ambica Krishna, Member of Legislative Assembly delivered the inaugural address. He said that it is deplorable to talk about the women's empowerment even after 56 years of Independence. During the inauguration session three exhibitions were held on a grand scale in the Municipal Gandhi Bhavan Campus, Eluru on Empowerment of Women through self-help Groups. A large number of women and men visited these exhibitions organized for the first time on Empowerment of Women. Besides resource persons and delegates, journalists and many observers also attended the exhibitions. C. Krishna Mohan Rao, Director of the workshop speaking on this occasion said that women's rights have to be implemented effectively for the employment of women. |
