Abstrakt: The present study aims to investigate the effects of social media on academic performance of University students. This study follow a quantitative approach. Survey method with a self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Sample comprised of 500 students from various Departments of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, selected by using convenient sampling. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics that is percentages, frequency counts and standard deviation. Results revealed that social media sites help students in their study through improving their reading skills, providing them knowledge regarding academic interest, improve general knowledge, and remove barriers to group discussion. However, findings also explore that excessive and unhealthy use of social media brings harmful consequences on academic performance of students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
