Abstrakt: The article presents the impact of public libraries on the social role of the institution when the crisis strikes, disrupting the assumptions, routines, and procedures of business. Topics include earthquake hit the Canterbury region of New Zealand's South Island with roads cracked, chimneys fell, and shop fronts collapsed; another earthquake struck Christchurch, damaging thousands of buildings; and large earthquake hampering the work of rebuilding the South Island's principal city.
