Modern nurse researchers must command a working knowledge of computer technology to facilitate the advancement of nursing science. Sometimes the pathways to becoming computer literate are not easy as the nurse begins to assimilate the words and concepts of a new language. As with any difficult task, the process of learning new information is made less painful if humor is a part of the framework for learning. This brief capsule of definitions seeks to offer the reader a right-brained view of a left-brained function. Just as software and hardware work to complement each other, so do hard science and soft laughter as they combine to offer the researcher a balance that keeps the mind healthy.
