The article discusses how the literary works of writer Philip Roth helped the psychiatrist-author deal with his battle against prostate cancer. Testosterone generation and surgical castration are mentioned, along with several of Roth's books such as "Portnoy's Complaint," "The Professor of Desire," and "The Breast." The impact of prostate cancer on a man's inner life is examined, as well as the author's experiences with an intermittent chemical castration process. |
