Abstrakt: According to the 2020 US Census, 14.2 percent of the United States population—about 46.9 million people—identify themselves as African American (including more than 5.8 million African Americans of mixed race). The majority of Black people in the United States are descendants of enslaved Africans. African Americans were actively oppressed and discriminated against for centuries, which affected the way mental illnesses in members of this group were viewed, diagnosed, and treated.
