The essay surveys the field of contemporary Czech children´s stories with regard to the potential of the texts to serve as a script for theatre with children. It focuses on the psychological fiction based on real-life stories. As contemporary literature, the works published from 1989 until now are considered. The first part of the essay deals with the children´s stories with respect to the theory of literature and it overviews the trends of the genre over the last twenty years. In the main part, the author scrutinises the texts in detail and underlines their particular topics, situations and characters. In the final part, the author inquires into the process of adapting the literature for stage taking into account the techniques used in theatre with children. Close attention is paid to the ways the child character is featured. |
