This thesis deals with Christian Kyrill Schneider OFM, a significant yet not at all widely known Franciscan missionary whose life in the second half of the 18th century Egypt and the surrounding Middle Eastern areas is comprehensively described in his autography Lebens- und Reisebeschreibung, a work that is only available as a manuscript and has never been extensively presented before. A critical edition of one chapter offers an insight into a catching ego-document from the beginning of the 19th century. This study is set in the context of Franciscan missions with an important focus on the activity of Czech Brethren in the Middle East. The introductory chapter summarizes the history of the previous research. A detailed literature overview together with all appendices provided should offer an abundance of materials for a self-study and also help with an easy comprehension of the subject matter. |
