The Secularization in the Czech Republic as a Theological Problem. The theme of the thesis is the secularization in the Czech context, namely in relation to the theoretical solving of the problem from the aspect of sociology of religion and the- ology, as well as the empirical exploration. In the first part it surveys the development of the concept in respect of the specific culture and sociopolitical events; it attends the theme in the light of sociology of religion, in particular with Thomas Luckmann and Pe- ter L. Berger, whose findings I consider the most useful for the theological grasping of the problem. The thesis copes with the secularization theory, which was determining the discussion on the secularization across the sciences for a long time. Further on it deals with the theme of the secularization in the world theology. It concentrates exclu- sively on its protestant part, especially in the German area. Special attention is paid to Ulrich Barth. In the second part the thesis deals with the analysis of the religious scene on the basis of special sociological research and on the census. It examines and con- firms the allegation that the Czech Republic is the most secularized European country, and he endeavors to outline possible historical preconditions of this fact.
