Recent social change and new equal opportunity legislation has promoted the concept of inclusion, in particular that those who are in some way disabled should be encouraged to take all of the experiences and opportunities available to the bulk of the population. In education in particular this means that the tutor has to make allowances in any presentation for those with impairments, and a number of "good practice" mechanisms have been developed to provide supplementary teaching materials to accompany presentations. However, for hearing-impaired students it is argued that these methods cannot easily cope with the digressions and expansions which are critical to a well run presentation. |
