Popis: | The purpose of the thesis is to investigate engraved Swedish glass during the interwar period and how the various techniques affect the visual impression of the ancient motifs. I want to find out what the glass as an artistic material is to work with and what possibilities and limitations there are for different expressions in the execution of the ancient motifs. The study is based on these four art pieces: Himmelsgloben from 1929 and Bacchuståget from 1925 designed by Edward Hald as well as Draperiskålen from 1919 and Oxhuvudena from 1923 designed by Simon Gate. The thesis is based on previous research within the subject of glass; its form and history and of course with focus on the engraved glass. The conclusion is that glass is a very unique material with special characteristics that you need to be aware of in terms of working with it. The engraving is an excellent technique to use to perform the motifs in question, but to highlight glass as a material the combination of the engraving and cut glass is more suitable. |
