Background: It is of significant importance to prevent healthcare-associated infections. Compliance with hygiene routines by emergency medical service personnel (EMSP) is equally as important as the compliance by personnel in hospitals. The same requirements regarding hygiene routines are to be followed by all healthcare personnel. Methods: Descriptive quantitative and comparative study based on survey questions. Result: A total of 61 survey forms from 56 respondents were included in the survey. The ESMP with high estimated attitudes concerning the compliance with hygiene routines also reported a higher rate of compliance. Hygiene routine compliance was equal in all priority missions; 1, 2 and 3. There was no significant correlation between the knowledge and the attitude of hygiene routines of EMSP. The ESMP considered themselves limited by their equipment and work environment which affected their ability to adhere to/comply with hygiene routines. Conclusion: The compliance with hygiene routines may be insufficient by ESMP. The respondents’ attitudes towards hygiene routines may affect their compliance. The missions' priorities seems not to affect the ESMP’s compliance of hygiene routines. |
