This study examines how educators themselves experience their motivation to work within the school's activities. In the study, I look at deprofessionalization, leadership and motivation. Four educators who have worked for more than 20 years in the school's operations have told about their experiences. After listening to their stories, four different common themes have crystallized. These themes were the students' development, their own development, leadership and societal changes that took place. All these themes are analysed on the basis of deprofessionalization, leadership and motivation. The purpose was to find out what makes educators want to continue working as educators as we have a risk of a large shortage of teachers in Sweden. The study concluded that educators need supportive leadership to remain motivated. School leaders need to show confidence in the teachers' competence. It is the educator who is the professional in his profession, but the profession has changed based on societal changes that have taken place and perhaps it has put too much on the profession without the education keeping up. |
