Implementation and Evaluation of a Question Concept Association Analysis System

| Popis: | 107 In a domain knowledge, there are associations among concepts. The associations among concepts are generally defined by scholars and experts based on their own profession and experience to assist teaching and learning. For example, students have high possibility of understanding addition if they understand multiplication. Some researchers proposed data mining methods to find out associations among concepts and showed the associations by data visualization for easy understanding. This research developed a question concept association analysis system to apply data mining method to analyzing students’ record of answering questions and relationships among questions and concepts to find out associations among concepts. The system estimates the possibilities of students understanding concepts when they understand a specific concept. The results could assist scholars and experts in analyzing the associations among concepts. The system visualizes the analysis results in a concept map visualized representation. The system also enables users to setup the association threshold to find out important associations. This research also applied the system to analyze a real data collected from 68 students’ answers to 24 questions to find out associations among 18 concepts. Different association thresholds were setup to find out significant associations among concepts. In total, the system found out 34 associations among concepts with 0.3 association threshold and 13 associations among concepts with 0.5 association threshold. |
