Popis: | 107 The libraries in Taiwan can be classified into five major types: National Libraries, Public Libraries, Academic Libraries for colleges and universities, School Libraries for elementary and high schools, and Special Libraries. They provide substantial and useful resources for teachers and students. In the past, school librarians used to choose and purchase the books from their prior experiences. However, with the development of technology and the Internet, readers can have ready access to information anytime and anywhere. Therefore, it has become increasingly important for school libraries to know how to select the right books to meet the readers’ needs. This thesis aims to shed light on how to select and purchase books for school libraries. On the basis of the relevant literature and the modified Delphi method (MDM), four main factors are proposed in this study, including "purposes of establishment", "needs of readers", "quality of books" and "balance of collection." A hierarchical structure is established and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is utilized to assess the impact of the four aspects on the selecting and purchasing books, in the hope of determining the weights of index for the hierarchy model. Among the four primary criteria, the empirical results show that " needs of readers " are the most significant indicators, followed by “purposes of establishment”, "quality of books", and the lowest weight is "balance of collection." In terms of sixteen sub criteria, "students’ learning", "diversified services" and "adaptive learning environment" are the most significant factors. This also reflects the learning needs of students and teachers is the primary consideration. Judging from the four main criteria and sixteen sub criteria, the rank of the three alternatives: “The Formula of Youthfulness,” “A Fish that Smiled at me,” and “The History Keepers” corresponds to the results of the survey. “The Formula of Youthfulness” is the most popular book. It is hoped that this study can offer an effective method of choosing and purchasing books for school libraries and function as a reference for future research.
