A Study of the Relationship between Smartphone Using Behavior and in Class Concentration at University of Technology

This study aimed to explore the relationship between the smartphone using behavior and in class concentration at university of technology. To find the different factors, backgroud variables, such as gender, grade, and majors, were examined. Participates were students from two universities of technology. 1,028 valid questionnaires were obtained. The "Smartphone Using Behavior Scale" and "In Class Concentration Scale" were used as research instruments. The findings were listed as follows: 1. Students are often use their smartphones in their daily life. 2. Compared with males, females are more likely to use their smartphones. 3. Students in Business, Administration, and Law majors get higher concentration than students in Information/Communication Technologies, Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction majors. 4. The degree of students’ concentration in class is upper intermediate. 5. Females’ concentration in salience filters, working memoery, and sensitivity control are higher than males’. 6. Senior students get higher concentration in class than sophomore and jounior students. 7. Students in Arts and Humanities majors have higher concentration than students in Information/Communication Technologies, Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction majors. Moreover, students in Business, Administration, and Law majors get higher concentration than students in Information/Communication Technologies. 8. There are some positive significant relationships between the smartphone using behavior and in class concentration.
