Popis: | 107 The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of yoga teaching on the physical flexibility and balance of pre-school children. The study subjects are the kindergarten children in Chiayi City, Taiwan. Yoga courses were implemented, and experimental research data were collected and processed through descriptive statistics, independent sample t test, single factor covariate analysis and Pearson product difference correlation. Based upon the analysis result, the following findings are concluded: I. The average performance of physical flexibility, balance and secondary abilities of the experimental group have improved significantly compared with the result of their pre-test. This indicates that the teaching of yoga to pre-school children can improve their physical flexibility and balance. II. After experimental groups of pre-school children took the yoga courses, the result shows that in terms of the physical flexibility, balance and secondary abilities the experimental group performs far better than the control group. III. If the influence of disturbance factors is excluded, after taking the yoga courses, the physical flexibility, balance and secondary abilities (such as forward bending, backward bending, standing forward bending, and dominant foot standing) are better among the experimental group. This shows that taking yoga courses can improve the physical flexibility and balance of the pre-school children. IV. The measurement of physical flexibility and balance in different genders among these subject groups tend to be consistent. V. There is a correlation between pre-school children’s physical flexibility, balance ability and secondary abilities The above findings demonstrate that after the implementation of the yoga course; This suggests that the yoga course has a positive effect on pre-school children’s overall and sub-item scores for physical flexibility and balance; hence, several recommendations have been proposed to relevant institutions and early childhood teachers : An ideal course design should consist of a 40-minute yoga class per week for a duration of one semester to improve the physical flexibility and balance of pre-school children.
