A Novel Tamper Detection and Image Recovery Technique for Color Image Demosaicking

In this thesis, we propose a new image authentication technique for detecting the tampering areas of the demosaicked image. The detected areas in the modified demosaicked image can be roughly recovered by using the proposed technique. Image demosaicking refers to the process of reconstructing one RGB color image by using the sampled data of color filter array. To save the hardware cost, only one component of each color pixel is sampled by color filter array. In the proposed technique, in order to provide image recovery, the image recovery codes as well as the image authentication codes are embedded into the demosaicked images. From the experimental results, we found that the proposed technique achieves good image quality of the embedded images. The tampered areas of the modified images can be corrected detected by using the proposed technique. If the test image has not been modified, it can be restored to the original demosaicking image. In the simulations, different tamper ratios of the modifications had been tested. It was shown that the proposed technique can roughly recover the modified images when the tampering ratio is less than half of the image size.
