The demand of cybersecurity products have increased dramatically in recent years. In this paper, 383 metropolitan areas in the United States are taken as research samples to explore the differences of cybersecurity technology innovation performance and its determinants. The approved cybersecurity patent stock in each metropolitan area from 2015 to 2017 were our dependent variable. Their research and development expenses and industrial strength were the explanatory variable. The empirical study was conducted by OLS and the Negative Binomial Model separately. The empirical results show that the number of cybersecurity patents is not only affected by the number of computer science professors and the amount of research and development expenses in each metropolitan area significantly, but also by the intensity of the information industry, financial industry and governments with positive relationship.
